yeah, kinda sucks. When we see the full list of players that won't be available to draft, either because they are still an MLB FA, not on a MLB 40-man roster, or are on the 4 teams outside the player pool, I think we'll be sorely disappointed. I have gone on record for saying I think it might have been a mistake not to use a full 30-team pool, but that's water under the bridge.
Having said that, I think it's important to note, there is no unfair advantage given to anyone over the situation of how many players are in the player pool, so that's good that we're all on an even playing field. Also, to some degree, this will make season two have a real sense of realism, as our talent pool will have us using a lot of guys we may not have originally considered using at the shallow end of the talent pool, simply because we have to.
It should be interesting for sure, and regardless of the smaller talent pool, I'm getting VERY excited about this upcoming season!

Bonds had a perfectly good card last year that wasnt used either...also we'll be missing out on Berkman, Holliday, Oswalt this year due to a short player pool and Moose's JAM since he retired.....
We'll be missing Sheets this year as well
Some suggestions....1 is back up the player pool freeze to March 1, with the draft taking place annually around the last weekend in March. One problem is that with a 162 game schedule, a faster pace will be required to complete the season on time. 2. 30 team player pool or 3. None of the above, keep status quo and focus on who's in rather than who's out.
We are still in the infancy stage here, getting to know one another some, and working out the kinks. We certainly have time now to take a long look at things and set them up the way that best fits this league.

but Bonds uses roids. Good riddance. When does the trial start that will throw his ass in jail, March 2?

Mike C would always freeze the player pool in late February and draft approx 2 weeks later. I always prefered to start a season earlier, but I can see the merit now. By late February, P&C have reported & full rosters are showing up to camp. Teams don't like to do major signings after that point unless an injury necessitates (ex. Lohse). These are somewhat unusual times, but I think this league makes sense to start a little later -- such as the first or second weekend of March.

agreed. I think next year we should freeze the 40 man on March 1 and draft middle of March....

I think a freeze of the date of the first P&C report date would at least be more in line. Last year with all 30 teams available and draftable, it didnt really effect much. But this year with so many late signings and our player team pool down as well, it will have an impact.
