According to the rules an owner can buy out a player's remaining contract for half of what is owed.
For conversation sake let's say a player has 2 years left on his contract at $10 per season, meaning the owner is still responsible for $20 of contract.
If an owner wants to buy out a player after the first year of his contract does he have the option to spread the money over 2 seasons? Such as in the case above would an owner have the option to buy out the player's contract who is making $10 per season and be charged $5 the year of the buyout and the remaining $5 the following season?

For the buyout, it is a one time buyout charge; you can't spread it out over two or more seasons. Hope this helps.
