In one of the previous leagues that I played in we had a rule where if you had a player under contract but he was not carded next season you could drop him and save the money.
I like that idea because if somebody gets hurt early and is out for the season and doesn't get carded then you're stuck with that salary. I realize that isn't the way it is done in real baseball but it would save a lot of dead money.
